Progress Update: Epilogues & Editing

I hope you like reading words, because I've been writing a lot of them.

My last progress update was when I hit the 200k word mark, and that felt like a big milestone, but now I'm looking at 257k. These word counts are kind of nebulous, of course, because I still have a lot of editing to do, plus the earlier chapters have more behind-the-scenes duplication that I need to strip out. Ultimately it'll give you a sense of the scale, but as far as progress goes, it can only tell you so much.

What can tell you a lot, on the other hand, is the fact that I've now finished all five chapters of the core game. I'm currently working on (and almost finished with) the epilogues, which weren't part of the initial plan I laid out. At first, my intention was for chapter five to veer off in various directions depending on what you have and haven't done throughout the game, providing a number of different endings. Once I started actually writing it, the whole plan started to feel kind of cumbersome and limiting, so I arrived at an alternative: chapter five now veers off in just a few ways, leading to one of seven different epilogues depending on the choices you've made.

I built a progress tracker into the tool I use to write this thing. I'm not sure why I made it, as it mostly just causes psychological trauma every time I look at it, but it's starting to feel different now that it's closer to completion. Look at this monster:

This graph is maybe a few thousand away from peaking and starting to move down instead as editing begins. I'm not ready to put out an official release date yet, but I think the only major step before that will be getting Android and iOS versions working. We're getting close!
